About Me (and my wife / partner Michelle)
I began my DJ career in 1980 fresh out of high school. My father owned a bar. Not a club, or a pub, but an honest to God BAR! The Lighthouse Inn located in Massillon, Ohio (Go Tigers!). An older friend (Jack Horn, "Jumpin' Jack Flash", now deceased) and I decided we wanted to have a Halloween party at my father's bar and we wanted to DJ and host said party.
We knew nothing about the DJ business, but hey, what was there to know? You play music, have fun, people dance, they have fun, you make a few announcements...have some more fun!
Equipment? We had a record player, a cheap two channel mixer, a home stereo receiver we used as an amp and a megaphone we used to make announcements...Ahhhh, the memories.
To those of you who don't remember "record players or megaphones" check with your local library. Boy, am I feeling older now! Not really, I was just a wee pup when I started, a mere 18 years old.
Anyway, I "discovered" that this was not the optimal system for this type of business, BRAINSTORM! Two record players. A step back...Imagine, people dancing on a wooden dance floor while I'm playing records. Can you say "SKIP"?
I eventually went from records to cassette tapes...I still have a callous on my index finger from the "cue/review" button. From cassettes to CDs, a sigh of relief.
I never had a light show starting out but I did not like the ones I saw. A par can here, a strobe light there. They just looked really lame to me. I wanted a lightshow like the clubs and concerts had...
so I got one.
Over the years my equipment, music, experience and lightshow have grown.
As far as my hobbies, well I don't get alot of free time due to my "day job" and the DJ business, but I love to read, work on the web site, go camping in the summer, movies (I LOVE movies), and work on my garden pond in the summer...Oh, and I LOVE just about any style of music there is.
Of course, I love my wife Michelle and my four children more than anything.
My wife Michelle is a second degree black belt (watch it now...don't mess with us) in Tae Kwon Do, she loves to read, HATES to go camping in the summer, is super smart and basically runs the business side of the DJ business...although she hates camping, she does throw me a bone and goes with the kids and I at least once a summer.
More than likely you'll talk to her when you call about the DJ business...so watch your tone...BLACK BELT...SECOND DEGREE! Can you sing..."Everybody was kung-fu fighting"?
